CODE OF CONDUCT | The Education Department’s has s Code of Conduct which provides a set of general principles to guide education staff and are designed to give guidance to our teachers and admin staff when making both professional and personal decisions. We at FVDHS follow this code and encourage our families to also respect these codes in the aim that all people at the school are treated with respect and understanding. | BUS ROUTES | Several bus routes are accessed by our students who live in communities up to 110km away. The school bus service is provided by an external contractor and coordinated by the student services coordinator which includes registering students for this service. Bus Maps | SCHOOL UNIFORMS | School uniforms can be purchased from the front office (cash only at this stage). There is a different uniform for primary and high school students. See the front office for prices. | COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT | Community involvement is a major focus of Fitzroy Valley DHS. Community participation is encouraged through the School Council, Aboriginal Languages program, NAIDOC celebrations, guest speaker programs, classroom morning teas, assemblies, sports carnivals, open days and various other community/school events. Educational activities that involve community organisation are also encouraged but please speak to the relevant deputy principal first. | COMMUNITY NOTICE BOARDS | FVDHS tries to keep the community involved in all our events and so you should find our school events advertised on the community notice boards at IGA, BP, Bayulu community store and on the FVDHS notice board at the Fitzroy Crossing visitor’s centre. Please keep an eye out for any notices – we would love you to join in. The school provides emergency lunches for students with a genuine need such as students who are unable to access lunch or lunch money via family/caregivers. Emergency lunches are ordered via the front office or at the canteen. A record of students ordering emergency lunches is kept and provided to the student services team for follow-up. | FUNDRAISING | Teachers may fundraise for individual or class projects, camps etc. Please seek prior permission from the principal. All money raised for fundraising activities must be deposited into a school account as directed by the manager of corporate services. Money must be expended from by the end of year in which it is raised. | HOME VISITS | All staff are strongly encouraged to complete regular positive home visits to families in consultation with the Aboriginal education team. It is an expectation of our community that staff will prioritise positive over negative interactions with families regarding their child. Staff MUST follow the home visit procedure. If in doubt, speak to a member of the Aboriginal education team. | LEAVING SCHOOL GROUNDS | All students MUST have permission from a parent/caregiver to leave school grounds during the day. This permission MUST be provided by the parent/caregiver to the front office. Students who are leaving school grounds (on their own with permission or with a parent/caregiver) must be signed out using the Student Sign Out book at the front office, regardless of whether they are returning or not returning for the day. | LEAVE PASS | Leave passes are available for our senior students (Years 10, 11 and 12). These must be collected by 9am from the front office. Front office will then arrange for a staff member to take the student off school grounds. Students are then expected to be at the front desk when the first bell goes, they will be signed out and taken to the shops or to their appointment and bought back by the assigned staff member. Students are encouraged to not purchase foods or drinks for other students and NO soft drink is to be purchased. Students are not to leave school grounds on their own. | | MEDICATION | If a student is required to take medication (on a temporary basis) during the school day, an administration of medication plan must be completed. If a teacher is not comfortable with administrating student medication, the student service coordinator will assume responsibility. If a child requires regular medication to be administered at school on an ongoing basis, then the school requires this to be included with enrolment information. The parent/carer will be requested to obtain a ‘Health Risk Medical Plan’ from the hospital or doctor which will document all relevant information regarding conditions and medications. This information will be included in the students Health Care Plan which will be distributed to all staff that work with that student. Please see the student services coordinator for more information. | MOBILE PHONES | Per Department policy, students are not permitted to use mobile phones during the school day. Classroom staff are responsible for ensuring students hand their phone into the front office at the start of the school day. | PHOTOGRAPHIC & DIGITAL MEDIA | Parents are asked to provide photo and video consent for their child upon enrolment. This information is stored in Integris. If in doubt, please ask the front office staff. | SECTION 24 | Students who are attending FVDHS from another school for less than four weeks are not formally enrolled at FVDHS, however staff must record the student’s attendance on a section 24 form provided by the front office. This form is to be returned to the front office who then forward this to the student’s original school. Students who remain at FVDHS after four weeks must be formally enrolled. | STUDENT WHEREABOUTS UNKNOWN (SWU) | Students Whose Whereabouts Are Unknown The SWU list is produced by the Department and details students who have been reported as missing from: - all schools (public, Catholic and independent);

The decision to suspend students is the sole responsibility of the leadership team. Classroom staff should not tell a student they will be suspended or threaten suspension. Factors that impact the decision to suspend a student include: Department policy, severity of behaviour according to the PBS behaviour flowchart, student’s behaviour history, availability of a responsible adult to care for the student during the suspension, whether the student has a cognitive impairment or other disability.
